Interestingly enough, I can take an MP3 ringtone, and using my pc's email client, mail it to my tracfone via my email address. It looks like this: myemailaddress@mms.att.net
If I send that mp3 with an mp3 extension, I get the "Media not supported by this phone" or some generic message like that. However, if I change the mp3 extension to .mid or .midi before I send the email, I can actually play the (mp3) file inside of my message after I receive it on my phone.
The sucky part is, that when I save the file and then select it via the multimedia menu, I get another generic message "Media format not support".
I wonder why it will play before I save it, but not after?
Anyone else who is a little more up to par on the technical side of things care to chime in?
You can also send it from Crostel like this, no need to use your email client.
Here are some things to try:
mime-type: audio/mp3
extension: mp3
mime-type: audio/midi
extension: mp3
mime-type: audio/midi
extension: mid
mime-type: audio/mp3
extension: mid
You get the idea. Then after the ringtone is on your phone try renaming it when you save it as a .mid or .mp3.
So far, no one has been able to get an mp3 ringtone to work on a tracfone but you seem to be close (I think Tracfone tries to block user created ringtones from working on their phones). Good luck!!!
I reduced the size of the tones I was trying, but still didn't have luck. I could get it play, but the same thing happened when I saved it.
You mention something about renaming the file.... unfortunately, I can only change the name of the file, I cannot change the extension once the file is already on my phone.
I'll keep checking and asking around about the W376.
BTW- for people that want a pre-paid phone that doesn't block internet or ringtones, I recommend T-Mobile prepaid. I've used those phones many times myself. They have a fair price and they don't try to screw you over by blocking your downloads and internet browsing.
