my tracfone started deducting units when i sent stuff from my phone.. wtf is going on?!?!?!?!

If it happened right after you redemed an airtime card, then maybe TracFone updated your sms rate plan? They can do that by sending special codes into your phone by sms. I don't know why they would do this though (also I have no idea what the codes are that they send).

According to TracFone:
Text messaging rates may vary based on phone model and technology.
Check your sms rate plan here(TracFone only).

I can tell you that on my c155 tracfone they deduct .3 credits to send a text message. I'm not sure if it was ever free on my phone..
