The v170 is a very primative phone, you can only download monophonic ringtones (older style, one note at a time). You can still get the older monophonic ringtones from crostel. However, to get nice sounding ringtones you will need to upgrade your phone. I am not sure about the LG3280.

Hipeople,
It's not the V170 that sucks it's TracFone in general. I've got the TracFone Motorola W370 and it supports realtones, but you can only download them from TracFone's web site. This was not explained in the documentation about the phone on TracFone's web site either. Before I bought the W370 I read about it and it said that it supports downloadable MP3 ringtones. I was under the impression that I would be able to download the MP3 tones from anywhere I wanted to. It says the W370 supports internet and can download MP3 tones, it does not say that you can only download them from TracFone's own web site where you have to pay for them. You also can only go to TracFone's web site from the openwave browser on the W370. Try to browse to another site outside TracFone and you get a http:404 error.

Twinsboy57,
That is the only way you can download a ringtone for the V170, select older phone and motorola sms.
The V170 only supports midi tones, monophonic tones. Some of them sound good and some don't sound good at all. Since the V170 has free incoming text messages at least you can try the midi ringtone and eventually find one that does sound good.
I had the TracFone Motorola V170 before I bought the TracFone Motorola W370, I liked it.
